Eligibility

Your Account is eligible to earn rewards in the form of Cash Back under the Program while your Account remains open and in Good Standing.

Cash Back Overview

Earning Cash Back

Under the Program, you will earn Cash Back on Net Qualifying Purchases made using your Account. We reserve the right to determine, from time to time and in our sole discretion, whether a particular transaction is a Qualifying Purchase. You will earn:

  • 3% Cash Back on Promotional Qualifying Purchases made in the spend category with the highest total Net Qualifying Purchases within a given calendar month.
  • 2% Cash Back on Promotional Qualifying Purchases made in the spend category with the second-highest total Net Qualifying Purchases within the same calendar month.
  • 1% Cash Back on all other Net Qualifying Purchases.

MCCs are determined by the merchant or its payment processor in accordance with standard industry practices, and merchants can change MCCs at any time without notice.  We are not responsible for the evaluation or assignment of MCCs to merchants.  Even if you expect the merchant to fit into a particular MCC, the merchant may be assigned to a different MCC, and purchases at the merchant will count toward your Qualifying Purchases under that merchant’s assigned MCC.  For example, some travel purchases associated with a merchant may use a merchandise code, or restaurants located inside department stores or hotels may use a merchandise or hotel code instead of a dining code and therefore would not qualify as a travel or dining purchase under these Program Terms and Conditions. Purchases made through merchants not assigned to a qualifying MCC or one of the spend categories below will earn 1% Cash Back. Additionally, Qualifying Purchases made through a third-party payment account, mobile or wireless card reader, digital wallet or similar technology that does not support the transmission of MCCs will earn 1% Cash Back.

The predefined spend categories that consist of certain MCC codes used to determine Cash Back rates are:

  • Amazon, Bookstores & Online Variety Stores: Includes most purchases on Amazon.com, including items sold directly by Amazon and many third-party sellers.  Also includes select bookstores and online variety stores.  Excludes some purchases if processed under a different MCC such as Amazon Fresh or Whole Foods grocery orders, Amazon ad, business and web services.
  • Dining: Includes dining purchases such as purchases at cafes, restaurants, bars, lounges, and fast-food establishments. Excludes food purchased at convenience stores, specialty markets, bakeries, and catering services. Food delivery purchases may not qualify if the merchant does not use the restaurant MCC.
  • Entertainment: Includes entertainment purchases such as movie theaters, live performances, concerts, bowling alleys, sporting events, museums, amusement parks, tourist attractions, and public golf courses. Excludes private golf courses, membership clubs, casinos and other gambling establishments, arcades, and spas.
  • Gas & EV Charging: Includes purchases at gas stations and EV charging stations. Excludes gasoline purchases at warehouse clubs, discount stores, or other merchants that do not use the gas station MCC.
  • Groceries: Includes purchases at grocery stores, supermarkets, and convenience stores. Excludes food or grocery purchases from drug stores, candy and confectionery shops, cheese shops, bakeries, and meat or fish markets. Online supermarket or grocery delivery purchases may not qualify if the merchant does not use the supermarket MCC.
  • Health & Beauty: Includes purchases at drug stores, pharmacies, cosmetic stores, and sports clubs. Excludes purchases at hair salons and barber shops, wig shops, and spas.
  • Travel & Transportation: Includes lodging and transportation purchases such as airfare, train and bus fares, taxis, limousines, ride-shares, hotels, resorts, campgrounds, car and boat rentals, cruises, and travel agencies. Excludes automobile and travel insurance, auto repair and tire shops, and vehicle dealerships.
  • Utilities & Streaming: Includes purchases from phone, internet, and cable providers, streaming services, and utility companies. Excludes insurance premiums and recurring subscriptions from non-streaming services.
  • Wholesale Clubs: Includes purchases at wholesale clubs. Excludes purchases at department stores, home improvement warehouses, and discount stores.

We calculate your Cash Back by:

  • Identifying the MCC spend category with the highest total Net Qualifying Purchases posted to the Account during that calendar month and multiplying the dollar amount of those Net Qualifying Purchases by 3%, plus
  • Identifying the MCC spend category with the second-highest total Net Qualifying Purchases posted to the Account during that calendar month and multiplying the dollar amount of those purchases by 2%, plus
  • Multiplying the dollar amount of all other Net Qualifying Purchases by 1%.

You will earn Cash Back at the end of each calendar month. Additionally, some merchants may compile purchases and post them at a later date, which may delay your Cash Back for such purchases until the next month.

There is no maximum annual limit on the amount of Cash Back you can earn, subject to eligibility requirements.

Qualifying Purchases are multiplied by the applicable Cash Back amount, based on the transaction category as determined by MCC categories (i.e. 3%, 2% or 1%) to determine the amount of Cash Back earned. For example, if you have $500 in Net Qualifying Purchases categorized under the “Travel & Transportation” spend category and $300 in Net Qualifying Purchases  categorized under the “Dining” spend category you will earn $15 (3%) on $500 in travel and transportation purchases (highest spend category), you will earn $6 (2%) on $300 in dining purchases (second-highest spend category), and any remaining Net Qualifying Purchases will earn 1% Cash Back.

Crediting Cash Back

Cash Back is calculated based on Net Qualifying Purchases made during a calendar month. Any Cash Back earned during a calendar month will be applied automatically as a credit to the Account on the second day of the next calendar month. The amount of Cash Back will be shown as a transaction under the “Payments, Adjustment, and Other” section on your periodic statement for the billing cycle that includes the date such Cash Back is credited. Depending on the timing, it may take 1 to 2 billing cycles after a transaction posts to your Account for your Cash Back to credit on your periodic statement. Cash Back may result in a credit balance on your Account. We also may award bonus Cash Back for certain transactions and/or promotions from time to time in our sole discretion (details will be provided with such offers).

Cash Back Earning Limitations and Forfeiture

Cash Back Earning Limitations

Because your Cash Back is calculated based on Net Qualifying Purchases, the amount of Cash Back will be reduced by any merchant credits posted to your Account for returns, chargebacks or any other adjustments. If the amount of the merchant credits posted to your Account in a calendar month exceed the amount of Net Qualifying Purchases you make in that month, you may have a negative Cash Back balance.

We reserve the right to determine the method to disburse any Cash Back reward balance. We will credit your Account with your Cash Back each month your Account is open and in Good Standing. In some situations, this may result in a credit balance refund.

We will apply your Cash Back to your new Card number if your Card is lost or stolen or if we issue you a new Card number for any other reason. You should notify us if you do not receive any expected Cash Back.

If your Account has a negative Cash Back balance at the end of a calendar month, Cash Back awarded for future Net Qualifying Purchases will be applied to such negative Cash Back balance in subsequent billing cycles until the Cash Back is zero or positive.

You will not earn Cash Back on cash advances, cash-like transactions, illegal transactions, or any transactions made with a lost, canceled, or stolen Card. If a merchant does not provide sufficient transaction detail for us to determine whether the transaction is a Qualifying Purchase, the transaction will not earn Cash Back.

You will not earn Cash Back for any calendar month during which the Account is in “Default” as defined in the Agreement. You will not earn Cash Back if the Account is not in Good Standing at the time when Cash Bank is credited; however, when the Account returns to Good Standing any prior accrued Cash Back amount will be credited to the Account on the next periodic statement. You will not earn Cash Back in or after any month in which you are otherwise disqualified from participation in the Program pursuant to the Review and Disqualification Section of these Program Terms and Conditions.

Except for the Cash Back credited to your Account and reflected on your periodic statement, Cash Back has no cash or other value and may be used only as described in these Program Terms and Conditions. Cash Back cannot be assigned, transferred, gifted, sold, attached, pledged or bartered under any circumstance, including, without limitation, in case of disability or death, by operation of law or in connection with a domestic relations or other legal dispute.

Forfeiture of Cash Back

As permitted by applicable law, no Cash Back will post to your Account if it is closed, the Account goes into “Default” as defined in the Agreement, or you are otherwise disqualified from participation in the Program pursuant to the Review and Disqualification Section of these Program Terms and Conditions. You will not be entitled to compensation or any other recourse if your Cash Back earnings are forfeited for any reason.

Review and Disqualification

We reserve the right, in our sole discretion, to disqualify customers from earning rewards in the event of fraud, abuse of Program privileges or violation of these Program Terms and Conditions as determined. Such disqualification may be temporary or permanent and may result in the forfeiture of Cash Back.

Cash Back Adjustments

We may make adjustments to your future Cash Back based on your Account activity. For example, we will decrease your Cash Back balance to correspond with the return of a purchase or the amount of a reward disbursed by us in error. In certain circumstances, it is possible to have a negative Cash Back balance.

Termination

We reserve the right, in our sole discretion, to suspend or terminate the Program and these Program Terms and Conditions at any time and in compliance with applicable law. Our decisions regarding the Program are final. If the Program is terminated, we will notify you of the date on which your Account will cease earning Cash Back.
